Welcome to my pages.

I am a graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering here at the University of Waterloo. I am a member of the Parallel and Distributed Systems Group. My supervisor is Professor Bruno Preiss. I also received my undergrad degree in computer engineering from UW. I was a member of the Class of '96. I am currently funded by NSERC and the Institute for Computer Research.

My research is currently focused on the use of the optimization of continuous functions, be they linear, quadratic or otherwise non-linear, for the placement of standard cells in semi-custom ASIC design. My investigations involve the use of various models of wire length and problem constraints to spread the cells over the placement area as well as investigations into which solvers most efficiently produce a solution. Following these investigations i will explore methods for placement legalization and local improvement of the legalized placement through iterative improvement (interchange) techniques. This research is being done in conjunction with Dr. Andrew Kennings of Ryerson Polytechnic.
